On our first active day in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, I had to wear something super light, casual and freeing because of the intense heat and and humidity. I couldn’t get caught up in wearing too much or even attempt to stay in normal shoes. I tend to swell when I travel and wearing everyday shoes or even cute flats I would have preferred end up coming off. So, flip flops were completely appropriate for the amount of hotel-hopping we did that day. A lot of beach walking also makes flip flops quite appealing. Ultimately, anything on the foot comes off when treading sand.
While we continued to make our way through all-inclusives and boutique hotels, I found wearing my hat was comforting and kept fly-aways in check. While I love hats, there are times I try to wear my hair out and let the curls do their thing, but the light wind factor kept the unruly hair (which was actually doing much better there than it does in D.C. or Atlanta) in place and added some texture to the floral dress I borrowed from Mami!
Ideally, I like sprucing up my looks when traveling, but 11 hour days in that kind of weather simply leaves little room for anything other than comfort and ease. Knowing how to dress for the situation or destination is half the battle. You’ll never be uncomfortable!
