NIKE: Spring ’13…and Nike+ Kinect Training

Is what I’m talking about!

Entering the white warehouse space Nike rented in Tribeca a few weeks ago, was like floating in lycra and sneaker heaven. It all started out with a meet and greet with some Nike employees, fitness and health editors and moi. We were given some New York team gear to change into, including the ‘Free’ cross-train sneakers, some water and a kick arse customized gym bag. The kind of bag any girl would love to rock and double up as your go-to overnight duffle. And for trapeze in my case.

We were introduced to former NFL player Alex Molden and pro Nike athlete Marie Purvis, both whom entertained us with an intense 45-minute workout mirrored after NFL training. The purpose was to give women a look into NFL training regiments and how we could incorporate some of those moves into our own workouts. I tell you no lie when I say I was in excruciating pain for two days after. My thighs were brick. Successful workout like a pro!

Since Nike and the NFL’s partnership earlier this year, they’ve studied the increasingly high interest women have in professional sports, especially football, hence the workout led mostly by Marie.

A follow-up private preview of the Nike Studio Wrap to the premium Nike Sportswear Pinnacle Collection and the revolutionary Nike Flyknit One reminded me of how sports apparel can be sexy and wearable everyday. Some of the pieces bear a very special avant-garde aesthetic, like the Italian made trench which retails for $900. Their idea is that you should look chic when leaving the gym and not just the run of the gamut, beat up gym clothes we don’t part with. My approach is that you gotta look cute no matter what. You just never know who you’ll run into. And really, the important thing about the collection is the use of fabrics and textures which offer comfort, flexibility and extreme breathability.

I went back on day two to workout with/against Marie who happens to be one of the avatars (alongside Alex) in the new Nike+ Kinect Training game designed for personalized training on the Xbox 360. After an initial assessment, which takes no more than 15 minutes, the game suggests an ideal workout routine that allows your goals to be within reach. The best part is that you can pair it up and workout live with a friend anywhere in the world. It’s good to be held accountable and always, always easier when you have a partner. Especially when it’s a girl who’s in top shape and will push you! I beat her tho in the one exercise we did. 🙂

The game is the ideal in-home experience brought to you by the folks that just know how to do it. And the collection? Well, let’s just say that unless I work at Nike, I’ll be lusting after most of the pieces. Price points aren’t average but are definitely worth investing in if you’re life is all about sports. My favorites: the snakeskin sneakers, the purple ones pictured above, the trench and the cranberry vest.

Oh, and the gym bag with its leather handles and hardcore gold metalware, but that’s avail on their site year-round.

* I was invited to NY c/of NIKE. All of my expenses were paid for in order to experience the new collection and Kinect game. Collection and game are available for purchase now in stores and online. All opinions are honest and my very own!

Eat well, love unapologetically, pray with true intention, and take care of yourself.

Because I definitely should have been there!

Tracy @ Ascending Butterfly
