Join Me as a Latina Smart Ambassador! & Giveaway W/Loot!

That’s what I am. I’m not being suggestive or anything, but sometimes the frothy idea of being an attractive woman to some finely calibered man (preferably one that can cook) because I’m Latina, sassy, spicy, fiesty, speak Spanish and cook in heels, is pretty much a motivator.  Makes me work harder and keep my game really tight.

If you follow Flanboyant Eats, you probably noticed that I posted every single Monday for the last 14 weeks as part of my participation in Latina Smart, a creative campaign sponsored by Kmart. Those posts were no different from other food and recipe writings, except for an added sprinkling of my Latin culture, traditions and roots. One of my favorite posts during the campaign was this every day basic, but authentically delicious breakfast that represents a morning in the life a Cuban…or many other Latin cultures.

Oh yes, not all Latin cultures are the same. 😉 We each have our special dialect, cuisine, dichos, traditions and history. It’s what makes each country so unique and beautiful.

Well, I’m super cheered to announce a second phase of the campaign where 5 new lucky blogging ladies will be joining the existing group made up of the proud chicas over at TikiTiki, Be Chic Mag (no connection to my site), Click Latina and Crafty Chicka. The five of us, along with 5 new Latina Smart ambassadoras will work together in highligting and continuing the conversation on what it means to be LatinaSmart.*

The crux of the campaign will entail interactive and engaging tweets, comments and updates on the Latina Smart Facebook Page. Additionally and the most lucrative part comes in the way of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by awarding special Latinas $25k sponsored by the Latina Smart Fund. This is where YOU have a chance to join me and the other ladies in judging the scholarship campaign!

So, how do you become a LS ambassador? Super easy! No cooking involved. No plating, no pictures, no blogging! Woot! These few easy ways will capture our attention: 1) Liking the LS page on Facebook. 2) Engaging in the questions and conversations we pose on the Page by commenting and liking them. 3) Lastly, craft your own quote on what it means to be Latina Smart! You can even get sassy and create your own graphic expressing your own thought! 

These few below are some wonderful examples of what we stand for!

Tweet your final quote, include the #LatinaSmart hashtag and show off your roots and desire to be one of the next Latina Smart rep! The heads that be will be selecting the new ambassadors based on these 3 requirements being met during the week of September 5th.

  1. What makes me #LatinaSmart? It’s more then WHAT I say, but HOW I say it: with conviction, attitude and a touch of determination. I live my life with a motto of “I do what I want!”, cuando sea, como sea! Being determined and having set goals, make me smart; knowing I will NOT stop until I reach those goals, make me #LatinaSmart.

    Now, what makes me a smart woman? I am comfortable in my own skin. I’m ambitious and determined, all the while having confidence that my skills & knowledge will pave the way to a bright future. I am aware and proud of my roots – it’s what makes me me and has a huge role in what I want to do in life. I want to spread the knowledge of the amazing and diverse latin culture.

    When I first arrived in the US, I was always asked where I was from. After telling people “Brazil”, I was shocked to see that many of them had no clue where Brazil even was! I was really flabergasted by this lack of knowledge and it has really stuck with me all these years. This is what really sparked the fire in me to do what I do. I want to spread the knowledge of the Brazilian culture, specifically food, which is a huge part of every latin culture.

    I can go on and on, but i think what really makes all us Latinas #LatinaSmart is that our countries, often referred to as “third world”, may be infested with poverty, but our people have something inside our souls that shines through every sincere, bright smile. I don’t know what it is but we are just happy people, thankful for life and the simple things: family, healt, food (lol). I think that that is what make us unique.

  8. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your Latina Smart posts and look forward to many more. There are so many things I think make me Latina Smart. But what is most important to me is making sure I be a positive role model to all of the young Latinas in my familia (there are tons of them). I’m driven, educated, have very strong convictions and wave my Dominican flag like it’s nobody’s business! All the while doing it with class. They don’t have to grow up to be exactly like me but if they learn the value of education, ambition and nationalistic pride then my job is done.

    I hope to join you as an ambassador! I’ve done a lot of work with Youth in my community, and what I love about this campaign, is that it addresses what I so often see lack of of in my community in the young girls especially, self-esteem, pride, confidence and knowing!

  16. What makes me a smart women is knowing where i come from and what i can accomplish. I come a very poor culture but very smart people. Haitian were the first Black independent nation and that makes me proud. My ancestors fought hard for their freedom and i will fight harder for my goals!

  17. I am smart because I approach the world with curiosity and wonder. I learn from all cultures and seek mentors of all kinds. I stretch myself beyond my limits and periodically push myself to do more and be better. Ultimately, I am smart because I try to integrate all parts of myself and present my true, authentic self to the world. My culture is the whole world, as viewed through the lens of a Harlem Renaissance-style “Maple Sugar Child”.

  20. I am Latina Smart because I defy stereotypes just by being me. I don’t look like a stereotype, I don’t sound like a stereotype, and if you say that I don’t seem like the stereotype of an American born Mexican, then I calmly point out that perhaps it is your thinking that needs to be modified.

    I was at a party once and a woman came up to me and asked me if I spoke Mexican, I replied by asking her if she spoke American or English. She laughed and told me she had never thought of it that way.

    I use my sense of humor to communicate and that definitely makes me Latina Smart.

  22. Let me just say it was difficult growing up as a minority in the US, especially in my state of ID. There weren’t many Latinos around. I sure stuck out like a sore thumb (a beautiful one I might add). I hated it. I wanted to be fair skin, blond hair, and a blue eyed gringa. Looking back I feel sorry that I ever felt that way. It may have been that I needed support not only from my family but from others. As I grew and developed, I realized how blessed I am to be a Latina. There are so many strong and inspirational Latinas out there making a difference. I feel proud to call myself a Latina. I strive to be an example and encourage my fellow Latinas. There is no reason why we can’t accomplish what we want and dersire.
