Let’s Celebrate National Moscato Day with Gallo Wines!

Gallo 3 Wines

This post is sponsored by Gallo Wines as part of a national campaign. The story and all opinions are honest and my very own. Always.

My Mother’s birthday is on Saturday. She is so beside herself because it’s another year of blessed life, but also because Mother’s Day is on Sunday and that means it’ll be a huge family affair with all 5 children, my awesome 4 siblings. She’s been dropping little hints here and there of what she wants to do and more importantly what we should be eating. Naturally, I’m entrusted with designing the fetes and menu.

And my luck is such that National Moscato Day is tomorrow, May 9th, where the annual “holiday” (imagine that!) is focused on entertaining the super sweet vine. Gallo Family Vineyards, whom you may be familiar with through my work with Madria, one of their sub brands, established the holiday just a few years ago to show off the endearing effect Moscato has on wine lovers. Lucky for me, it’s my mother’s favorite wine. This is an indisputable fact.

A funny story. Back in Cuba, long before I was born, my father was a diplomatic translator and as such would attend many national dinners to translate. During one of these esteemed dinners with French officials, my mother did the most sacrilegious thing ever: She asked my father for sugar to sweeten her red wine — at the dinner table, in front of all those dignitaries. He was mortified to say the least, but he obliged.

I’ve known of this fantastic story my whole life, so indulging my mother with sweet wines not requiring adding sugar (can you even believe it!) is part of the fun of recounting that story.

Moscato was made for my mother!

It’s almost as if the Gallo brothers, Ernest & Julio Gallo, who founded Gallo Vineyards in 1933 knew people like my mother would borderline embarrass themselves by asking for teaspoons of refined sugar, as if they were sweetening café. Fortunately for my mother and others like her, and wine lovers alike, the brand boasts 16 fruity wines.

Something for everyone.

So in anticipation of my mom’s birthday and Mother’s Day, I’m co-hosting a delicious Twitter Party to celebrate National Moscato Day on Friday, 6pm. EST.  I’ll be sharing all kinds of #FunFacts about the brands, the wines, what you can do with them, and possibly a few more anecdotes about my mother’s adoration for the vino dulce. She particularly loves the red variety….We’ll see what I end up giving her!

I’d love for you to join in the fun with my comadres and me and enter to be eligible to win some prizes, too!  You must register to officially participate. You know the deal. Check out my girl’s over at Latina Bloggers Connect for more information and to RSVP.  And follow our hashtag #DiaDelMoscato to chime in. We’ve got you covered no matter what.  Rules apply. We like to be legit over here.
